Dossie Easton, author of The Ethical Slut and Radical Ecstasy and Deborah Anapol, author of Love Without Limits and Polyamory in the 21st Century, join forces to offer an extraordinary day of exploring the power of desire – how it works and how to find it if it’s gone missing. While we need not act on every desire, when we deny what we feel, we cast our disowned selves into the shadow land along with our passion and excitement. SCHEDULE
We will begin promptly at 11 am so please plan to arrive a few minutes earlier and allow time to find parking if you are driving. We will have a 30 minute tea break around 2 pm. Feel free to bring a snack or light lunch, or plan to purchase something at Open Secret or in the neighborhood, but we are wanting to wait until we close at 6 PM to have a leisurely meal time.

This is an experiential event so wear comfortable clothing that’s easy to move and breathe in. Cushions, backjacks, and chairs are provided but we recommend you bring something to lie on – a blanket, yoga mat, sarong – whatever works for you.

How do we manage our non-monogamous lifestyles with full respect for all the members of our sexual constellations? How do we deal with conflict, jealousy, time, roles, mundane life, and manage to have fulfilling and connected relationships with all our lovers? What communication skills make it possible to negotiate our relationships without endless fruitless arguments? In a full-day workshop, we will have time to explore visions of our lifestyles, negotiate the edges, communicate about needs and feelings and sex, and find out who we get to be in all these amazing relationships. We will also be working with that complex of emotions that you call jealousy. You can explore and safely move into ownership of your jealousy while you learn to take care of yourself in a loving manner when you feel jealous. You can immediately apply these 'jealousy-unlearning-skills' as you meet emotional challenges of new friendships and loving connections. These are the skills that successful sluts have used to create a community of lovers where everyone gets their needs met and no one gets done wrong.

In this workshop we will learn how to provide for emotional and physical safety as we plan our journeys into the shadowy sea of our deepest unconscious selves. Who are your precious inner sexy characters? How can you enact them and let other people interact with them? And then what might happen? Let's try it and find out! We will use tantric breath work and shamanic journeying techniques to bring our precious inner perverts into consciousness and into connection. As a therapist, Dossie has been invited into the darker sides of many people's psyches, and has much to say about how our fantasies can inform our growth and also promote wonderful connections and sexual journeys.

The goal of this seminar is to increase participants' understanding and information about BDSM practices and lifestyles, including reality-based knowledge of what BDSM players actually do and how they negotiate consent and plan for physical and emotional safety. Participants will learn a psychodynamic approach that will help them understand why people are drawn to these practices and how they could use the support of therapy to unpack the narrative or personal mythos enacted in their play with power and eroticism. Participants will learn how to maintain a nonjudgmental stance, ask respectful questions and create a safe environment in their consulting rooms so that their BDSM clients will feel free to share their realities and discuss their issues in the therapeutic encounter.
Dossie Easton, MFT is a therapist in private practice in San Francisco, co-author of four books about BDSM with Janet Hardy. Ms. Easton has been offering professional services to the communities of sexual minorities for the last 20 years. Before that she was an educator and counselor, since 1969. She has more than 30 years training and experience working with survivors of domestic violence and child physical and sexual abuse.
